- ➤ Iconic soul food restaurant Weaver D's will close tomorrow at 1016 E. Broad Street as founder Dexter Weaver retires; the restaurant has served the community since 1986 and was celebrated by R.E.M. before being sold to Joe Nedza, who plans a new comfort food concept in June. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ CCSD is transforming the abandoned West Broad School into a new facility for Athens Community Career Academy by fixing the Campbell Lane building and repurposing the Minor Street building. - ➤ Researchers from the University of Georgia found that extreme heat after Hurricane Beryl put disaster relief workers in Texas at risk. The study shows that unsafe temperatures could lead to heat-related illnesses and may drive new safety measures. WUGA
