- ➤ Athens and UGA will gather for a memorial 5K at Tate Plaza on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 8 a.m. to honor Laken Riley, with a moment of silence and a public service; funds raised will support The Laken Hope Foundation. The Red & Black

- ➤ Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services has scheduled a free event celebrating women in science for Saturday, Feb. 28 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Nature Center; learners of all ages will explore stories of women trailblazers (registration is not required). Classic City News
- ➤ Members from the University of Georgia and the Athletic Association dedicated the new 37-acre track and field complex with over 34,000 sqft of facilities and the Spec Towns Track yesterday in Athens. - ➤ Yesterday, the Clarke County School District presented a plan to repurpose West Broad School Complex into a construction pathway and legacy center by rehabilitating two buildings funded by SPLOST—committee applications are due March 5 at 5 p.m. and public feedback remains open via survey. - ➤ Hummingbirds from Florida are on the move and will likely cross into Georgia soon, with sightings expected in the south between late February and mid-March and in northern areas by early April (Georgia is home to 11 species, including the ruby-throated hummingbird). Athens Banner-Herald
