- ➤ The Athens Area Humane Society is fighting pet food insecurity with its Full Bellies Food Bowl program by offering free pet food and supplies. Today at its Mitchell Bridge Road campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., pet owners can pick up food with support from local partners. The Red & Black
- ➤ Athens Homeless Coalition released its January 2026 update on efforts to reduce homelessness. The report outlines plans to boost low-barrier shelter capacity, rapid exit strategies, and funding support that helped over 600 residents & prevent evictions. The Red & Black

- ➤ Twelve Athens Academy students won Gold and Silver Key awards at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, with winners in photography, painting, ceramics and jewelry set to compete on a national level later. The Red & Black

- ➤ A UGA study found that wild turkey nests produced more females than males, with 446 females and 278 males from 83 nests. Researchers say that habitat loss in Georgia & DNA testing from eggshells revealed this trend, with the results published Feb. 4. Athens Banner-Herald
