- ➤ The Ark nonprofit will hold the Rock the Ark Benefit Concert tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Theatre to raise funds for eviction prevention for low-income working families in Athens & surrounding areas. Wim Tapley and The Cannons will headline with Karma Kat opening the show. WUGA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After more than 20 years at its Tracy St. location, Canopy Studio will move to a larger space on Ware Street this fall. The nonprofit aerial dance center partnered with local real estate group Polias to serve more than 600 students each week. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ A report from Open Georgia released yesterday shows UGA’s top 10 earners in fiscal 2025 are mostly from athletics, with Kirby Smart’s salary (over $13.8 million) leading the list that includes head coach Mike White and others. Athens Banner-Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kemp declared a state of emergency today ahead of Winter Storm Fern, which is expected to bring freezing rain, hazardous travel conditions and outages this weekend. Authorities are deploying crews to pre-treat roads and secure emergency services until Jan. 29 (Georgia Emergency Management is coordinating the response). Classic City News

- ➤ The third annual Classic City races will take place tomorrow with a full marathon, half marathon and relay — covering downtown, neighborhoods, and campus — starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Classic Center. Weather could affect the course, according to race organizers. The Red & Black
- ➤ A winter storm watch in Athens from Friday night to Monday morning has prompted updates to Bulldog sports events. The GymDawgs meet now starts at 3 p.m. today on the SEC Network + the swimming meet is moved to 1 p.m. at Gabrielsen Natatorium while women’s tennis matches were cancelled. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Georgia football finished No. 5 in the public US LBM Coaches Poll after Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell mistakenly left them off his ballot. The oversight on Jan. 22 did not affect the Bulldogs' final ranking ahead of Ohio State. Athens Banner-Herald
