- ➤ The University of Georgia set a record for research with $654 million in expenditures during FY25, growing 4.1% over the previous year and relying on federal+state+private funding to boost its regional innovation and impact. The Red & Black
- ➤ University of Georgia professors John Ruter & Yajun Yan have been elected as Fellows of the National Academy of Inventors, marking the university’s seventh consecutive annual honor. They will be inducted on June 4 in Los Angeles. The Red & Black

- ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department suspends garbage, recycling, compost, and leaf and limb collections today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; non-downtown customers will have pickups moved one day later (Tuesday replaces Monday, etc.) while downtown service remains unchanged and regular pickups resume Monday, Jan. 26. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The UGA College of Public Health received a $245,000 grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety to study e-bike safety on campus and in Athens-Clarke County. The project runs from Dec. 3, 2025 to Sept. 30, 2026 and will collaborate with law enforcement and groups to improve traffic safety. The Red & Black
- ➤ Dr. Taz Bhatia has launched Hol+ a holistic health hub that blends eastern and western medicine with telehealth consultations and personalized lab tests to treat stress, hormone imbalance and metabolism.
