- ➤ Athens-Clarke County Government Housing & Community Development will host the January Coffee Together session on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Athens-Clarke County Library (Multipurpose Room A2025) where Taneisha Brooks from Historic Athens will discuss preserving older homes and supporting affordable housing while coffee is provided. - ➤ Athens' Raising Cane’s has teamed with Flavor Flav to launch a tie-in Olympic campaign featuring a limited-edition bobsled plush puppy collectible available at the Baxter St. location starting Wednesday — the promotion follows Flavor Flav’s recent Olympic sponsorship deals and targets the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. - ➤ Downtown on Monday, Jan. 19, Athens-Clarke County will host its 10th-anniversary MLK Day Parade & Festival with a noon vendor market, a 1 p.m. film screening at Flicker Theatre (263 W. - ➤ Taylor-Grady House at Landmark Commons partners with UGA's Black Artist Alliance & Printmaking Student Association to launch Home & Family: A Printmaking Exhibit for Black History Month. The show runs from Feb. 6 to 27 with an opening reception on Feb. 6 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The Red & Black

- ➤ Carl Blount, an Athens resident and insurance agent (parent of two students), announced his candidacy for Clarke County Board of Education District 3. He plans to boost literacy and student support ahead of the May 19 election with a focus on stable governance and school collaboration. The Red & Black

- ➤ Residents from Keep Athens Local raised concerns during the Athens-Clarke County Planning Commission meeting after Capstone Property Group updated its redevelopment plan for the UGA President’s House. They urge the Mayor and commissioners to request a revised Master Plan that better protects the property’s historic features and neighborhood character. The Red & Black

- ➤ Georgia football signed running back Dante Dowdell, a transfer from an SEC school, on Monday, Jan. 12. He rushed for 560 yards last season for Kentucky and will add depth to the Bulldogs' lineup this season. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Georgia basketball is ranked No. 22 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after a 75-70 win over South Carolina and a 92-77 loss at Florida. The Bulldogs, who are 14-2 overall and 2-1 in SEC play, will host Ole Miss at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ The University of Georgia will dedicate a new track and field facility on Feb. 18 in Athens that will serve campus athletes and local residents. The venue on South Milledge Avenue, built with $59.8 million in donations, will host high school and collegiate meets later this year. The Red & Black
- ➤ Georgia women's basketball lost 65-43 to No. 3 South Carolina on Sunday in a game marked by a season-low first-half that hampered their play. The Bulldogs, now 1-3 in SEC contests, will face Arkansas on Jan. 18 at 12 p.m. on the road. The Red & Black
- ➤ Georgia offensive lineman Monroe Freeling announced Monday afternoon that he is skipping his senior season to enter the 2026 NFL Draft. He helped stabilize the Bulldogs' offensive line in 2025 — a move that leaves a notable gap for the team. The Red & Black
- ➤ Prince Avenue Christian coach Jon Richt said that transfer QB Aaron Philo will soon join the Florida Gators, crediting his consistent performance & cool demeanor on the field.
